Possible Mold Growing in your Home? Some Simple Precautions to Take.
Mold can be good if you are making brie or penicillin. But in case you are not making cheese or medicine, mold in the home is NOT a good thing. Mold can grow anywhere; Carpet, Clothes, and places you cannot see, such as behind dry wall or under the tiles in your shower.
The problems with mold are that it spreads easily and cannot be completely erased. Along with being expensive to fix, it can cause allergens and irritants.
The first place to start is to identify problem areas. Do you have water stains on your roof? How is the tile in your bathroom? A major problem we see is grout failure in showers. Flooding in the basement is also a major problem area.
Secondly is to dry wet areas immediately. Mold cannot grow without moisture. Damp Carpets? Toilet Overflow? Dry them right away.
Keep moisture away with proper ventilation. The bathroom, laundry room, and kitchen are all high moisture areas. Keep a window cracked a little when you shower or run the exhaust fan if you do not have a window.
Improve air flow in the house. When the air gets cooler, it holds less moisture and excess moisture may appear on your walls, floors, and windows. To help this, open doors to increase air flow between and especially doors to closets that may be cooler than other rooms.
